This adorable and easy to prep craft will melt hearts this Valentine’s Day!

Create at home with your child or use in your classroom for an easy gift to parents.

you will need:

  • Heart template
  • Cardstock or construction paper
  • Glue (I recommend liquid)
  • Tissue paper or construction paper cut into small pieces

how to:

  1. Print or copy the heart template on white construction paper or cardstock.  This helps prevent the paper becoming flimsy once glue is added. You can create your own template or use the one I’ve created.
  2. Cut up red or pink construction paper or tissue paper into small squares.
  3. Give each student a handful of the precut squares, glue, and a heart template.  I have mine on a craft tray from Lakeshore in the picture above.
  4. Have students squeeze the glue and put the paper squares on their template.
  5. Let dry & enjoy!

ideas to use:

  • Create colorful artwork for your hallway or classroom
  • Have each student create one for someone special at home as a Valentine’s Day gift
  • Create at home with your child for a fun Valentine’s Day activity
  • Gift to grandparents

benefits:

Students will work on their fine motor skills squeezing the glue bottle, picking up small squares, and placing them on their heart template. We know how important hand strength is for handwriting, so let those little hands squeeze!

They’ll work on spatial awareness – keeping their paper squares inside of their heart outline.

You can introduce or practice sight words I, love, you, & to.

Look at those little hands at work!

Creating Valentine's Day craft

process over product

It can be SO hard to watch students (or your own child – guilty) work on a project and not offer suggestions.  Letting children work uninterrupted builds pride in their work, stamina, and a sense of accomplishment.  Let them enjoy the process of creating, even if the product doesn’t look picture-perfect!

looking for a heart template?

Let me save you time – I created a file with 3 different fonts for craft templates, and also 2 options for writing templates for your students to add a sentence or 2.

happy creating!
